Imagined for Space Tourists, rehearsed by those on Earth.

Gold is a material born in stellar explosions, scattered through space before becoming embedded in planetary bodies such as Earth. Yet throughout human history it has come to symbolize wealth, power, and permanence. Atomic Gold Standard invites participants to reflect on gold not merely as currency or ornament, but as a cosmic material connecting stars, atoms, and human desire.
Through four scenes combining storytelling, projection, and participatory tasting rituals, Atomic Gold Standard traces gold’s journey from cosmic origins to human extraction, from nanotechnology to speculative futures of private space travel. Audience members taste simple foods transformed by edible gold leaf while engaging with narratives that question how societies assign value to matter.

Atomic Gold Standard is designed as a participatory performance experience. Victoria Vesna works with culinary school and students who perform as servers while the stories are being told by Vesna.
Audience members are seated at tables and guided through four narrative acts combining storytelling, projection, and tasting bites of food covered with gold leaf. Each scene introduces a new perspective on gold while offering a small food element. The experience blends ritual, science, and speculative storytelling.
